Copyright & Licensing Policy

1. Copyright Ownership and Exclusive Publishing Rights

Smṛti is committed to upholding high standards of academic publishing while ensuring authors retain their rights. Upon acceptance and publication of an article in Smṛti, authors retain full copyright ownership. However, authors grant the journal exclusive publishing rights, meaning:

  • The article cannot be published elsewhere once accepted and published.

  • The journal has the sole right to publish, distribute, and archive the final version of the article. 

2. Licensing Terms (CC BY-NC-ND)

All articles published in Smṛti are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives (CC BY-NC-ND) License. This license ensures that:

  • Attribution: Proper credit must be given to the original author(s) and Smṛti when the article is shared.

  • Non-Commercial Use: The article may not be used for commercial purposes, including but not limited to commercial publications, paid educational courses, or any revenue-generating activities, without explicit permission.

  • No Derivatives: The content must remain unaltered. Modifications, adaptations, translations, or derivative works based on the original article are not permitted without formal approval.

3. Author Rights and Repository Policy

Authors of articles published in Smṛti retain the right to:

  • Share the final publisher-formatted PDF on personal websites, institutional repositories, and non-commercial academic platforms, provided proper attribution is maintained.

  • Use their article for educational, instructional, and research purposes, including classroom teaching, conference presentations, and academic seminars.

  • Distribute copies for non-commercial educational purposes.

However, authors may not:

  • Submit, republish, or distribute the article in another journal, book, or commercial publication without the explicit written permission of Smṛti.

  • Modify, translate, or create derivative works from the article.

4. Journal Rights

By granting Smṛti exclusive publishing rights, authors acknowledge that:

  • The journal has the sole right to publish and distribute the final version of the article.

  • The journal may authorize third-party academic indexing, archiving, and distribution under non-commercial terms. 

5. Commercial Use and Permissions

Any request to use a published article for commercial purposes (e.g., reprints, translations, book chapters, or paid educational resources) must receive prior approval from both Smṛti and the respective author(s). Unauthorized commercial reproduction, distribution, or use is strictly prohibited.

6. Compliance and Acknowledgment

By submitting an article to Smṛti, authors agree to:

  1. Grant exclusive publishing rights to the journal.

  2. Adhere to the terms of the CC BY-NC-ND license.

  3. Refrain from publishing the work elsewhere 

7. Archiving and Digital Preservation

Smṛti is committed to the long-term preservation and accessibility of its published content. To ensure continued availability, all articles are archived in Zenodo - A digital preservation platform maintained by CERN, providing stable and permanent access to published articles.
